Perform a Soft Reset |
Use the stylus to lightly press and hold the Reset button on the back of your device. Your device restarts and displays the Today screen. |
Perform a Hard (Factory) Reset |
Slide the Volume slider down and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the back of your HTC Advantage.
Note: This will erase all information on the device and restore it to factory default settings.

Send a Digital Photo or video |
From today screen, tap Start > Programs > Pictures and Videos > Select picture or video you want to send > press Send > Select email account you wish to use or MMS |
Turn On/Off Bluetooth |
Press Comm Manager button on the right side of the device, tap the Bluetooth icon to turn Bluetooth on/off |
Turn On/Off Wi-Fi |
Press Comm Manager button on the right side of the device, tap the Wi-Fi icon to turn Wi-Fi on/off |

Tap Start > Settings > System tab > Memory > Running Programs tab. In the Running Programs list, tap the program you want to close > tap Stop or Stop All |
Reassign programs or shortcuts to program buttons |
Tap Start > Settings > Personal tab > Buttons. Tap the button you want to reassign. (To help you identify the buttons, there are numbers and icons representing the original function of the button.) In the Assign a program box, tap the program or shortcut you want to assign. Tap OK.

Change the ring tone |
On the Phone screen, tap Menu > Options > Phone tab. In the Ring tone list, tap the sound you want to use. |

If the battery discharges fast |
- Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth after using them.
- Disable Direct Push in Comm Manager.
- Verify power management settings.
(Start > Settings > System tab > Power > Advanced tab)
- Verify the backlight timeout setting, and suggest the user to decrease it.
(Start > Settings > System tab > Backlight > Battery Power tab)

If the screen freezes, responds slowly, or has no response |
- Soft reset the HTC Advantage by pressing the RESET button with the stylus.
- Verify that the user is not pressing keys too quickly or repeatedly.
- Verify battery power level.
|
If the HTC Advantage is unable to get a UMTS signal |
- Verify if the SIM card is inserted properly and has been activated.
- Verify if the SIM card is not locked or temporarily disabled.
- Check network coverage area with service provider.
- Test the SIM card in another phone to check if it is damaged.

If the HTC Advantage cannot dial out or receive calls |
- Verify if the SIM card is inserted properly and it is already activated.
- Check network coverage area with service provider
- Check phone function is enabled in Comm Manager.
- If flight mode is enabled, turn off flight mode.
- If fixed dialing is enabled, disable it. (Start > Settings > Personal tab > Phone > More tab > Settings button).

If the Camera screen frequently blacks out with a message |
To save battery power, the HTC Advantage blacks out the screen and displays the notification message when the Camera program is not in use for two minutes.
To reactivate the Camera screen, simply press the CAMERA button
|
If you are experiencing problems in connecting to and browsing the Internet |
- Verify if the account has been activated for wireless data services and that the HTC Advantage has the correct GPRS settings.
- Set up the HTC Advantage for cellular dial-up, verify if the user’s service plan includes CSD dial-up.
- If using Wi-Fi, verify if the user is within the coverage area of a wireless network, Wi-Fi is enabled on the HTC Advantage, and the correct network key has been entered.

If you have problems in connecting a Bluetooth headset to the HTC Advantage |
- Check Bluetooth headset is functioning properly.
- Verify if Bluetooth on the HTC Advantage and the Bluetooth headset are both set to discoverable mode.
- Check to make sure the correct pass code is used.
- Verify if the HTC Advantage is paired with another Bluetooth device. If it is, disconnect from that device and try pairing again with the Bluetooth headset.

If the HTC Advantage cannot sync Outlook e-mails automatically with the Exchange |
- Check the Exchange Server settings have been entered on the HTC Advantage and are correct.
- Verify if Direct Push is activated in Comm Manager.
- Verify if the corporate network is using Exchange Server SP2 with Exchange ActiveSync.
- Verify if the HTC Advantage has successfully completed an initial sync with Exchange Server via GPRS.

If ActiveSync on the PC cannot detect the HTC Advantage |
- Verify if ActiveSync 4.5 or above is installed on the user’s PC.
- Try unplugging and reconnecting the USB cable.
- In ActiveSync on the PC, the Allow USB connections check box must be selected in File > Connection Settings.
